Kristin has been an artist since childhood, first sketching comics from newspapers and then continuing her art explorations throughout high school and into college. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fine art from MSU Denver. Her current body of work explores the nature of tension and release, chaos and control. The drawings and paintings are expressions of the subconscious through automatism and gestural drawing. Many drawings incorporate ink, paint or watercolor and are applied in sweeping, gestural movements across the paper. She has an affinity for paper from her early drawing background but applies the media in a more painterly fashion. Concurrently, some works focus on heavy layering of pigments and mediums in very large and graphic formats, but the automatism is still there through layered brush strokes and added mark making.
